I hope she’s having an affair with Ted Stevens — anything that would prevent her inevitable bid for the White House. She belongs on the sidelines, literally: Speaks in empty platitudes. Often mentions teamwork. Masters many cliches, repeats accordingly. Huge ego. Told Larry King she wants to help lead the effort to make reporters less biased ’cause, you know, she used [...]

While searching for some redneck photos, I happened upon the Web site for the Alabama Council of Conservative Citizens. I thought that neo-Klan outfit had gone the way of George Wallace, but ignorance is stubborn: When I was in the airport yesterday, the first thing I saw after finding out that Barack Hussein Obama was [...]

a princess needs a prince like a fish needs a bicycle

grimm-book

I guess all two-year-old girls like Sleeping Beauty and Snow White and Cinderella.  And I suppose all two-year-old girls wear Snow White costumes every day after Halloween and preface their names when introduced to neighbors with “Princess.”  They probably all climb onto their fathers’ laps before bedtime, hand them the same Little Golden Book version of “Snow White” they read the night before, and the night before that, and expect it to be read to them yet again, regardless of the fact that their fathers would rather read “The Poky Little Puppy,” “The Cat in the Hat,” or “Snow.”

I doubt, however, that they all point to the pictures of princes from these stories and say, “Daddy right there” like my princess does.  Knowing I have a narrow window in which I can expect to have this level of influence and trust, I like to make sure these 200-year-old fairy tales end properly.  After all, she’ll be able to read them herself soon.

All stories about princesses are altered such that any rescues by anyone resembling a prince are censored.

When a handsome prince kisses Snow White to break the evil Queen’s spell and then takes her back to his stupid castle in the clouds, Maddie instead hears, “After Daddy kissed Snow White on the cheek, she awoke from the evil Queen’s spell, completed her education, and began her medical practice with the celibate man she met as a resident.  And they lived happily ever after, just down the path from Prince Daddy.  The End.”

Sleeping Beauty wakes up and invites the man who assisted her to manage the law practice she takes over from her father.  She lived happily ever after, enjoying weekends with Daddy in the family lake house.

Cinderella slides her foot into the glass slipper and then publishes what becomes a NY Times best-selling autobiography, allowing her beau to be her editor.  She too lives happily ever after, frequently seeking inspiration via twittering back and forth with Daddy or reading his blog.

Sometimes, Pretty Bride will hear me reading through the monitor, come upstairs, and ask me when I decided the Grimm Brothers needed to host a bra burning party.  “The day I started raising a daughter,” I tell her.

Our Photo Shoot

I'm Just Sayin' - Sun, 11/16/2008 - 23:40
This weekend, I was lucky enough to have Cu-Cu & M, willing to do whatever it was that I wanted them to do. Well, what did I want? Them to pose for me to do a photo shoot. I kind of sucked, because I really hate telling people what to do (weird, I know), so it was short and we only got a few good shots. Here are my favorites though.

She's with the Band

Oh The Joys - Sun, 11/16/2008 - 23:00
"Spin around in circles until you fall down!" the band cried.
The Rooster and her friend Margaux spun like whirling dervishes.

Margaux fell repeatedly and The Rooster weaved like a drunkard.

"Now show us your belly buttons!" the band roared.
Roo and her friend exposed their bellies by pulling their 3T shirts up to their eyeballs.

At the Ralph's World concert we went to this weekend, the two girls were gone like a shot in the first few bars of the first song.

The Mayor sat clinging to my side. He intently studied the whole scene like a budding anthropologist.

The Rooster and her friend on the other hand, were down in front jumping up and down and pumping their fists in the air.

Occasionally, one of the girls would run back to me long enough to take a long pull on a juice box straw and then disappear again amongst her peers in the junior mosh pit.

Before they began their last song, the band invited audience members to join them onstage.

Margaux and The Rooster raced up the stage stairs nearly flattening the two year old set.

At first they teetered at the proscenium's edge squinting into the spotlight for a look at the crowd, but then I lost them in the throng.

The next time I spotted them I noticed they had stolen drumsticks and were banging on the drum kit like two wild animals.

Something tells me this doesn't bode well for the teen years.

Happy Birthday to Me!! (Again)

I'm Just Sayin' - Sun, 11/16/2008 - 22:04
So, if you know me, or read about me here and there, you probably know that I love my cats! AND, most of all, I love to torture them by dressing them up. Actually, that's a totally new thing. Since we got Maddie, and CLM had a GA Tech jersey that we tried on her and she didn't seem to mind - I'm OBSESSED with getting clothes or costumes for the cats. Seriously, Maddie runs around as if it's nothing. The other cats? Yeah, not so much. Mythos thinks he can't move a muscle, like even turn his head, when he's got something on. He just sits, paralyzed. Kind of like when we got him the harness and leash. He'd just fall over in the spot you set him down in. Couldn't move. For hours. Micah, well, he just looks pitiful and begs for help with his eyes.

Here, take a look for yourself...

Ms. Maddie, lounging in the silver disc that's on the coffee table.

Playing with a ball. How cute is she? God! Adorable! I know!

Micah, pleading for help.

Mythos, a statue.
So, my baby girl outgrew her collar, so we had to get her a new one. She loves pink (well, mainly Louis Vuitton, but pink will do in a pinch), so we went with hot pink this time - better reflects her outgoing teenager 'tude! She also got a bit of bling (collar charm or something - shaped like a cat head! So cute!)

Not to be outdone, Momma thought she should get some new bling too...so, Baby and I compromised (white gold vs. platinum, etc. etc.)

Pretty no? Today was a good day too. We hit Lenox to have a watch cleaned and resized (needed another link - fat arms!) and replaced some oh-so-scratched-sunglasses of mine. I do love that husband of mine. We finished the day off with some left over Indian food (um, yum - nothing gets better like Indian food gets better the next day!) and the Sex and the City movie.

Yep. That's all I've got. It's so funny. I think of really thought provoking stuff to write about here...and then, by the time I have time to type. I'm so over it. I just wanna say what I'm up to and see what you guys are up too. Who cares about all that thought provoking crap anyway? :)

Oh yeah - one more thing! Madonna in Philly - this THURSDAY! WOOT! Can't wait! Then AGAIN, on the following Monday in the ATL! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!! Go Madonna go madonna! Sweet! Gotta go pack peeps.

Love,
me

Beer Blogging

barryarnson.com - Sun, 11/16/2008 - 20:27

It’s tough.  I would like to blog about all my homebrewing endeavors but it is difficult to do so.  I mean at what point do you blog about the beer is the question that I always have to ask myself.  Do I blog when I have finished boiling the wort and the everything is in the primary fermentor?  Do I blog when I have bottled the beer?  How about after 2-4 weeks the the beer has been in the bottle and I have tried it?  It is always a tough choice.  In the past I have written up a little short something when when the beer is in the primary and then just added as things went on.  That is worked…sort of.  So far I have done three more brews without blogging about them.  Bad blogger/homebrewer I guess.

Learning from a Tree Stump

chamblee54 - Sun, 11/16/2008 - 20:23

At about 1:30, PG called Uzi, and said to meet behind the waffle house. Today, the sunday walk was going to be in East Atlanta.
PG was true to form in making a wrong turn on the freeway, forcing a drive down Spring Street to North Avenue. There was little traffic, and soon the men were on Moreland, crossing I 20, and making that weird turn off Moreland onto Flat Shoals.
The East Atlanta shopping district is not very big. It can be covered on foot in a few minutes. There are plenty of unused buildings, and former parking lots with a fence in front. The transitionality of the neighborhood is a work in progress.
There are plenty of places to get a drink in East Atlanta. While PG was taking pictures of graffiti on the side of the Earl, Uzi said that he never did care to be in a bar on Sunday afternoon. PG thought back to his drinking days and agreed. Sundays are for riding bikes, hiking, watching football, but not to be spent inside with cigarette smoking drunks.
On the way back to the car, Uzi saw a tree stump in a vacant lot. He decided to count the rings on the stump. By his reckoning, the tree was 130 years old when it was murdered. There was some serious fighting in this area during the War between the States. This would have been 144 years ago, or before the tree was planted.
There was once a fill in band leader on the Tonight show named Tommy Newsome. Johnny Carson made comments about Mr. Newsome going to Central Park, and taking charisma lessons from a tree stump. The stump in East Atlanta is utterly lacking in charisma. It was not in Central Park forty years ago. Reports of local musicians taking charisma lessons from this tree stump are not to be believed.

Inaugural iPhone Post!

I'm Just Sayin' - Sun, 11/16/2008 - 16:21
Hola people!

This is my very first post from my new iPhone! Woo-Hoo! We are wrapping up a fabulous birthday weekend. Yesterday was the highlight of the birthday weekend when we celebrated BethDay. Ha!

So far it's not too bad typing on this thing, but we'll see how it goes this week and as I use it more. I do already love the apps i've installed, particularly CameraBag and Twinkle.

So Baby totally gets husband of the year for getting me an eternity band for my birthday. I mean what girl doesn't love diamonds?!?

I shall get pics eventually.

In other news I had my wedding band resized while at the jewelers (fat finger!) and it's so much more comfy now! But...they screwed up the engraving. What is really funny is that they said "verify the engraving 09-15-05 BEA" and Baby and I are all, um...ok. We racked our
brains for hours trying to figure out what the he'll that meant. Finally this AM we dug out the receipt and confirmed it was really B&R not BEA. LOL! So I'm leaving it here this week so Baby can take it back. Hope they can fix that!

Aiight we're at Lenox to go to Cartier & the Apple Store. Yay!

Sent from my iPhone

**edited later online. Um, I am NOT liking the iPhone formatting and spacing. How annoying. Will have to see if I can fix that somehow.

Weird.

Tom Watson

chamblee54 - Sat, 11/15/2008 - 21:21

00113

00214

There is a twelve foot tall statue of Tom Watson in front of the steps to the Georgia State Capital It is on the west side, looking at Central Avenue and Atlanta City Hall.
Mr. Watson is a curious figure. At first a populist who supported the right of freed slaves to vote, he became a rabble rousing anti semite and anti catholic. His publications called for the reorganization of the Ku Klux Klan. During the imprisonment of Leo Frank, he said “The next Jew who does what Frank did, is going to get exactly the same thing that we give to Negro rapists.” Mr. Frank was later abducted from jail and hung from a tree in Marietta, near the site of the Big Chicken.
The green metal likeness of Mr. Watson, with his left armed raised in rhetorical combat, has seen many things over the years. Today, there was a rally for the right of same sex couples to marry. The expression on the statue did not change during the event. One suspects that the anti catholic crusader would have been amused by the call for the church to mind its own business.
The rally was a happy, friendly event. There have been reports of racial unrest at previous prop 8 rallies, but that was not seen by this reporter. In fact, the best costume of the day was worn by a black lady. Another black lady spoke, and said “we are not fighting hate, we are fighting ignorance.”
There was a bulldog in the crowd, who was not camera shy. It was noted that very few people have pet yellow jackets. The dog’s owner did not understand this comment.
